Fire protection of doors is very important as they prevent the spread of fire through the main entry/exit points to a room or building. That’s why the whole door system (the core, styles and rails, facings, frame, and hinge/lock components) needs to work effectively in the case of a fire.
The current approach is to create heavy, dense cores to provide the main protection, with expanding seals around the edges. Often the ‘minor’ components have little protection. The resulting door system, while effective in many cases, is extremely heavy and creates both structural engineering and installation issues. By using Zeroignition technologies, we can protect all of the components of the system, whether they’re solid wood, wood panel, plastic, or composite. This increases the level of fire protection in one area, allowing the use of lighter and more cost-effective materials.
